WRC-27 dossier takes shape

Two new research notes have been added to our WRC-27 dossier, which is part of the PolicyTracker Spectrum Research Service.

We are now approaching the halfway point—in calendar terms—in the preparations for WRC-27.

WRC-23 doesn’t seem that long ago, but work towards the next WRC started very soon afterwards. Before you know it, you will be packing your bags for Shanghai!

WRCs don’t always take place every four years. There were five between 1993 and 2003. However, the last three (WRC-15, WRC-19, and WRC-23) have all been held at four-year intervals, so this is now becoming the norm. Following WRC-27, the next WRC will take place in 2031.

To help you keep track of the issues that will dominate the agenda in Shanghai in 2027, we have started a WRC-27 dossier. The first research note provides an overview of key dates, meetings, groups and initiatives that relate to the event.

The others will gather all the information that is publicly available on detailed preliminary positions on the key agenda items. Positions will be categorised by regional group (CEPT, CITEL, APT, ATU, ASMG and RCC) and service group (fixed, mobile and radiolocation, fixed satellite and broadcasting satellite, mobile satellite and science).

The first of these research notes focuses on fixed, mobile and radiolocation services and is now available to PolicyTracker Spectrum Research Service subscribers.

The WRC-27 dossier is available here. It also includes an overview of the agenda items and a pair of “classic” PolicyTracker articles that examined the case for and against fundamentally changing the WRC process.
