Martin Sims

Martin Sims is an industry analyst, trainer and former academic who specialises in communications policy issues. He has first-hand experience of the UK broadcasting sector, having worked as a News Editor in independent radio, then as a journalist for the BBC network news. He set up PolicyTracker in 2004 and has written widely on spectrum management policy issues, as well as setting up a wide range of training courses, developing auction software and running the 2.3 GHz auction in Nigeria. He has an MA in Communications from the University of Westminster and is a co-author of Understanding Spectrum Liberalisation (CRC Press).

Catherine Viola

Catherine Viola has over 15 years’ experience in research house and consulting environments, and has written extensively on spectrum, wireless technologies and services, utility smart grids, and software services. Before joining the PolicyTracker team, Catherine worked for Analysys Mason for over ten years, holding senior roles in its Research business. More recently, she developed a smart grids information portal for cleantech start-up Innovation Observatory. Catherine holds a first-class honours degree from King’s College London.

Dianne Northfield

Dianne is a freelance writer, researcher and communications-industry analyst with more than 26 years’ experience in regulatory and policy-focused research. he has worked across fixed-line, wireless, broadband and spectrum topics, and has produced reports, articles and consulting work for governments, regulators, investors and service providers. She has also contributed to major research papers including VoIP, broadband, wireless interconnection and spectrum intelligence dashboards, and has held senior roles at Yankee Group and Tolaga Research. Her background includes research and teaching posts at RMIT University and Harvard University, and she is the author of The Information Policy Maze: Global Challenges – National Responses.

Jonathan Watson

Dr Jonathan Watson has worked as a business journalist for a variety of organisations including Screen Digest, Analytica and Euromoney Publications, where he was Editor of Broadcasting Strategy. He has written several business reports including Broadband Internet access in Europe and a study of the global market for video-on-demand, both for Screen Digest. He has a PhD in Modern History.

Laura Sear

Laura is the News Editor at PolicyTracker. She’s specialised in European spectrum policies. She previously worked as a communications assistant at the European Parliament’s DG PRES in Brussels. As a freelance journalist, she contributed to the Guardian, Deutsche Welle, the Daily Mail and several Belgian publications such as MO, Knack and VRT. She holds an MA in International Journalism at City University of London.

Cameron Hill

Cameron Hill is a London-Based journalist at PolicyTracker. He primarily writes about the satellite industry, space and policy developments in the US and Europe. He also works on the SignalTracker app and has contributed to several research white papers based on results obtained through use of the service. He has an MA in Journalism from Kingston University London.

Carlos José Jijón

Carlos is an Ecuadorian writer and editor currently based in London. Before joining the team at PolicyTracker, he published stories related to regional politics and culture in journals and magazines like La República, Expreso, Clarín, LWLies, and more.

Richard Handford

Richard is an experienced telecoms journalist who has written for a variety of publications. He has contributed to The Economist, Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal, as well as working full-time for Financial Times Newsletters, Breakingviews and, most recently, Mobile World Live. In January 2017, Richard moved to Australia and has since become PolicyTracker’s Asia correspondent.

Marina Leiva

Marina Leiva is a London-based freelance journalist. She previously covered institutional investments in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal for MandateWire at the Financial Times, and began her career in Spain reporting on international affairs for Eldiario. She holds an MA in International Journalism from City, University of London

Jarosław Adamowski

Jarosław Adamowski is a Warsaw-based freelance journalist and correspondent who writes mainly on defense, space, and industry topics for a range of English-language outlets such as the Guardian, Transitions Online, the Prague Post and Defense News.
