Podcast: The three most controversial agenda items ahead of WRC-27

In this episode of the PolicyTracker Spectrum Podcast, journalists Cameron Hill and Laura Sear discuss the three biggest and most controversial agenda items that will be dealt with at WRC-27.

| Cameron Hill

With WRC-27 drawing closer, Cameron and Laura introduce and explain the purpose and processes of the conference and focus on three agenda items of interest that should be followed keenly.

This includes the topic of using MSS in IMT bands, which is relevant for the satellite direct-to-device offerings being planned by large corporate interests such as Amazon and Elon Musk’s Starlink.

They also discuss the controversies over regulatory measures to limit unauthorised satellite transmissions, something which relates to geopolitical issues that some would see as being outside the traditional scope of the conference.

Proposals for new IMT bands are another key topic. What bands are being explored, and what are the obstacles to using them?
