The UK regulator, Ofcom, is consulting on proposed processes for applications for non-geostationary satellite systems. The processes incorporate new checks on interference risks, greater visibility of applications, stronger ways to deal with harmful interference if it occurs, and competition checks. The FCC is seeking comment on a request from Iridium for a waiver to its rules on the use of spectrum for the provision of Global Maritime Distress and Safety System mobile satellite services.
