6 GHz benchmark updated for 2024

The big news in the 6 GHz band since the PolicyTracker benchmark was last updated in January 2023 is probably the WRC-23The World Radiocommunication Conference (W… decision to approve three separate IMTInternational Mobile Telecommunications (I… identification footnotes in the band.

This was good news for the mobile industry, but proponents of unlicensed use were also satisfied with the recognition of RLAN’s usage of the band. Check out the global and regional overview for a high-level perspective.

Away from Dubai, national administrations carried on with their own plans. We have one research note on Africa, Europe and the Middle East and another on Asia and the Americas. The benchmark now covers 83 countries and territories.

The benchmark also highlights the broad range of regulatory instruments that are being used to implement unlicensed 6 GHz policies. Administrations might make decisions specific to 6 GHz, or update their country’s frequency allocation table, or simply amend their short-range device/licence-exempt equipment regulations.
